A sub‐hepatic nodule in a young female: Chase the case

Abstract

A 24-year-old female presented with dull aching abdominal pain for the last 15 days. There was no history of nausea, vomiting, jaundice or constipation. An abdominopelvic ultrasonography (USG) revealed a soft tissue nodule measuring 4 × 3 × 2.5 cm in the right sub-hepatic region and another soft tissue nodule measuring 1 cm diameter in the right perirenal space (Figure 1). Her past medical records revealed that she had underwent right salpingooophorectomy 2 years back for an ovarian tumour. These nodules were found to be FDG-avid on FDG-PET with an SUVmax of 6.1. USG-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) was performed from the sub-hepatic nodule. Both May-Grunwald Giemsa (MGG) and haematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained smears were prepared. A cell block was also prepared from the aspirate using sodium alginate technique.
