A Subtraction-Average-Based Optimizer for Solving Engineering Problems with Applications on TCSC Allocation in Power Systems

Abstract: The present study introduces a subtraction-average-based optimization algorithm (SAOA), a unique enhanced evolutionary technique for solving engineering optimization problems. The typical SAOA works by subtracting the average of searcher agents from the position of population members in the search space. To increase searching capabilities, this study proposes an improved SAO (ISAO) that incorporates a cooperative learning technique based on the leader solution. First, after considering testing on different sta… Show more

“…The SABT methodology was based on mathematical concepts, including average values, shifts in seeking indicative sites, and the direction of the variance between two objectively quantifiable quantities. The method used by the SABT to calculate the arithmetic average is wholly original because it relies on a certain functional called the "v-subtraction operator" [36]. Therefore, each vector-based response in the SABT group was altered to comply with the following equation.…”

“…The presented GA was incorporated with dual mutation probability in order to enhance the available transfer capability in power systems. In [34], a modified version of SAA is presented for the allocation of TCSC for reducing losses in electrical power grids. This study incorporates a cooperative learning technique based on the leader solution into the standard SAA.…”

“…Stochastic approaches tackle optimisation problems by investigating the resulting searching space at random and applying arbitrary operators. Such approaches generate a group of viable solutions to a certain problem before repeatedly enhancing them in order to arrive at a suitable one [28,29]. In [30], an innovative metaheuristic algorithm called the Black Widow Optimisation Algorithm (BWOA), which is inspired by the hunting behaviour of black widow spiders, was designed for the parameter extraction of PV cells and panels.…”
