A Survey of Localization in Wireless Sensor Network

Abstract: Localization is one of the key techniques in wireless sensor network. The location estimation methods can be classified into target/source localization and node self-localization. In target localization, we mainly introduce the energy-based method. Then we investigate the node self-localization methods. Since the widespread adoption of the wireless sensor network, the localization methods are different in various applications. And there are several challenges in some special scenarios. In this paper, we presen… Show more

“…WSN is a group of collaborative sensors with communication infrastructures for monitoring and recording of physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, pressure, humidity, light and wind, for onward data organisation and transmission to a central location or server through a WLAN (Mautz, 2012;Akyildiz, Su, Sankarasubramaniam, & Cayirci, 2002). A WSN consists of few or several sensor nodes that are small, lightweight and portable (Yick, Mukherjee, & Ghosal, 2008;L. Cheng et al, 2012).…”

“…Wang, Bischoff, Laur, & Paul, 2009). The sensor node, as well as the WSN that is used mainly for monitoring and tracking purposes, has its application prominent in consumer and industrial areas, which include health, traffic, automation, smart home and positioning (Yick et al, 2008;L. Cheng et al, 2012;Potdar et al, 2009).…”

“…The LBS can largely be classified into outdoor and indoor environments. While the outdoor environment has made considerable progress using the global positioning system (GPS), which can identify locations using various satellite signals, the indoor environment [26]. Although the method that measures the range using the time during the propagation of radio waves such as UWB and CSS has a relatively accurate the LQI is not provided in Wi-Fi, which has recently been used as the most general-purpose communication network.…”
