Photovoltaic panels have a non-linear current-voltage characteristics to produce the maximum power at only one point called the maximum power point. In the case of the uniform illumination a single solar panel shows only one maximum power, which is also the global maximum power point. In the case an irregularly illuminated photovoltaic panel many local maxima on the power-voltage curve can be observed and only one of them is the global maximum. The proposed algorithm detects whether a solar panel is in the uniform insolation conditions. Then an appropriate strategy of tracking the maximum power point is taken using a decision algorithm. The proposed method is simulated in the environment created by the authors, which allows to stimulate photovoltaic panels in real conditions of lighting, temperature and shading.

The lead toxicity and instability of conventional all‐inorganic lead halide perovskites hinder the production of efficient and stable nontoxic perovskite solar cells (PSCs), which prompts the search for viable nonleaded substitutes for photovoltaic (PV) applications. The present study investigates the optoelectronic characteristics of proposed lead‐free orthorhombic perovskites KSn1−xGexI3 (x = 0, 0.5, 1) via first‐principle density functional theory (DFT), to get an insight into their PV applicability. DFT computation with generalized gradient approximation of Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof exchange–correlation is performed to extract the parameters such as bandgap, mobility, dielectric constant, conduction band minima and valence band maxima of KSnI3, KSn0.5Ge0.5I3, and KGeI3 to demonstrate their capability as a functional layer in PSCs. These characteristics have been utilized to simulate PSCs. The simulated devices FTO/SnO2/KSnI3/Spiro‐OMeTAD/Au, FTO/SnO2/KSn0.5Ge0.5I3/Spiro‐OMeTAD/Au, and FTO/SnO2/KGeI3/Spiro‐OMeTAD/Au exhibit the efficiency of 8.23%, 8.89%, and 4.12%, respectively. Thereafter, the most effective KSn0.5Ge0.5I3‐cell with an efficiency of 8.89% is selected for additional optimization of thickness, defect density, and doping concentration to achieve maximum efficiency. The distinctive green proposes KSn0.5Ge0.5I3‐PSC, with an optimized efficiency of 20.29% stands out among the top PSC technologies. Future research on this subject will focus on synthesizing the proposed novel KSn0.5Ge0.5I3‐PSC and evaluating the performance of the KGeI3‐PSC.

Summary The use of photovoltaic (PV) systems has increased in recent years due to the high demand for clean energy sources. PV systems can utilize abundant and free energy from the sun, which is a substantial advantage. However, compared with other renewable technologies, the PV system still faces major obstacles such as high cost and low efficiency. In addition, fluctuating incident energy from the sun creates harmonics in the generated power that might lead to undesirable system performance. Total harmonic distortion (THD) is the ratio of distorted power to the main power of the signal, and is most commonly used to indicate the amount of signal distortion. THD has become a serious concern as more PV systems are integrated into grid systems. Previous research and reviews have attempted to reduce THD and its effect, but unfortunately focused on reducing THD at individual parts of the PV system. For the first time, this study holistically and systematically reviews the advances in THD reduction techniques for the entire PV system. The causes of harmonics, current solutions, and research gaps for further investigation are described in detail. Moreover, the current THD reduction techniques used in each stage of the PV system are compared, including their main benefits and drawbacks. Finally, this study recommends the use of adaptive filters as a possible solution for THD reduction because these filters have effectively reduced noise and disturbance in other systems.
