Objective We aimed to describe the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) status of hepatitis B virus (HBV) among freshmen who were in the class of 2020 and from Jiangsu Province. Methods A random multistage sampling had been used to screen freshmen to conduct online questionnaire. The chi-square test was applied for pairwise comparison between sub-groups. Lasso regression and logistic regression were used to analyze the influencing factors of KAP about HBV. A structural equation model was established to explore the relationships among KAP of HBV. Results The total awareness rate of HBV among freshmen was 63.1%. More than 50% of freshmen reported that they were not willing to live with hepatitis B carriers. Only 51.0% of students had been immunized against HBV. The knowledge of HBV among students whose fathers had college/bachelor degree or above was 1.464 times higher than those whose fathers’ education level was junior high school or below (95% CI = 1.277~1.677). Both of positive attitude and behavior among female students were 1.424 times (95% CI = 1.329~1.525) and 1.468 times (95% CI = 1.291~1.669) than that within male students, respectively. The positive behaviors of students whose mothers had college education or above were 1.347 times higher than those whose mothers had the degree of junior high or below (95% CI = 1.147~1.582). Students who living with their parents were 1.167 times likely to have positive behaviors than those who living in other methods (95% CI = 1.020~1.334). The structural equation model had shown that the direct effect of knowledge on preventive motivation, attitude and behavior was 0.28, 0.53 and 0.10, respectively. Conclusion The population of freshmen still was far from a comprehensive understanding of HBV prevention and treatment. It is suggested that administrators of colleges and universities should pay more attentions to education of HBV knowledge as well as take multi-channel measures for prevention and management.

Background and Aims Infection with the hepatitis B virus is a serious public health problem that is growing all over the world. Therefore, in this context, there is no exception to public participation in disease burden reduction. Consequently, for the first time in Bangladesh, the current study aims to assess the level of vaccination status, knowledge, attitude, and practice of hepatitis B infection among general people. Methods A cross‐sectional study was carried out between December 15, 2021, and January 17, 2022, including sociodemographic information as well as questions about vaccination status and knowledge, attitude, and practice related to hepatitis B. Data were analyzed using descriptive (frequency) and inferential statistics (Mann–Whitney U , Kruskal–Wallis H , χ 2 , binary logistic regression, and spearman's rho correlation coefficient). Results Results indicated that about one‐third (37.9%) of the 807 participants had received hepatitis B vaccine, with an overall mean score of 11.506 ± 5.403 for knowledge, 5.435 ± 1.038 and 4.252 ± 1.776 for attitude and practice, respectively. Risk factors related to vaccination were age, religion, educational qualification, occupation, residence area, marital status, comorbidity, and family member suffering from hepatitis B. Higher level of knowledge was significantly found among the young people aged between 10 and 29; had higher secondary or tertiary education (median = 13); were employed (median = 13.5, interquartile range [IQR] = 8); living in divisional city (median = 13, IQR = 7); were single (media = 13, IQR = 7); and whose family members were suffering from hepatitis B. Besides, poor practice was observed among those aged between 50 and higher ( p = 0.004), had no formal education [ p < 0.001), a retired or housewife ( p < 0.001), divorced or widowed ( p < 0.001), absence of comorbidity ( p = 0.02), and whose family members were not infected with hepatitis B ( p < 0.001). Conclusions The results exposed that vaccination rates and preventative behavior are unsatisfactory, which will hinder efforts to eradicate hepatitis B worldwide by the year 2030.

Determinar, nos graduandos de medicina, o conhecimento; atitudes diante da representação social da hepatite B; e perfil imunológico por meio de imunoensaios enzimáticos. Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico, exploratório, conduzido com acadêmicos de medicina de uma instituição de ensino superior privada. Para a coleta dos dados foi aplicado um instrumento autoadministrado; verificação da carteira de imunização; e comprovação do status sorológico dos estudantes. Os dados foram analisados com auxílio do software Statistical Package for the Social Science, empregando análises bivariadas e regressão logística. Participaram do estudo 84 acadêmicos, sendo grande parte, do segundo ano letivo do curso de medicina (59,5%). Percebeu-se algumas lacunas no conhecimento dos discentes sobre a transmissibilidade da doença, evidenciando uma associação estatisticamente significante entre o status de imunização e agente etiológico (p<0,020). Contatou-se que 40,5% dos estudantes não estavam imunizados contra o VHB, respondendo erroneamente sobre a via de prevenção da doença (66,7%) e que 91,7% não haviam certificado seu status de imunização anteriormente ao estudo. Notou-se que os discentes que praticam sempre atividades físicas dispunham de 5,113 mais chances de serem imunizados contra o VHB do que os que “Nunca Praticam”. Além disto, percebeu-se que os alunos que não aceitariam assistência de um profissional contaminado com o VHB têm uma chance maior de serem não imunizados (OR=5,180 IC 95% 1,112-24,139). Conclui-se que parte dos acadêmicos de medicina, encontravam-se vulneráveis a contaminação pelo VHB, sendo de modo geral, as lacunas no conhecimento, as atitudes frente a representação social da doença fatores influentes no status de imunização.
