A Survey on Reliability Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications have become more and more attractive with the miniaturization of circuits and the large variety of sensors. The different application domains, especially critical fields of WSN use, make the reliability of data acquisition and communication a hot research field that must be tackled efficiently. Indeed, the quality of largely used, cheap-cost wireless sensors and their scarce energy supply support these reliability challenges that lead to data loss or corruption. For s… Show more

“…The required number of copies established from a locally estimated packet message error‐rate, the packet delivery probability, and its hop‐distance to the sink in Hop by Hop Broadcasting (HHB) is presented in . In Reference , PSFQ Pump‐Slowly Fetch‐Quickly distributes the data slowly to recover errors. In this process, the lost message is detected by seeing the higher sequence number of packets.…”

“…Congestion control algorithms for WSN are extensively discussed in recent past years [8] [9]. In WSNs, congestion occurs at two levels i-e node and link level congestion.…”

“…The main task of WSNs is to provide transport and network protocols functionalities for reliable data transfer over the unreliable channels and nodes and also deals with fault tolerance [7]. Usually for network level, the cause of node failure is due to the changes in path and topology that must be treated properly to reduce the relative packet loss and energy exhaustion [8]. At transport level, congestion should be managed to prevent the data loss by fair distribution of the bandwidth for all the network nodes especially for the distant nodes [8].…”

“…Due to the unreliable wireless links, it is important to avoid packet loss and to ensure the reliable communications for most applications in industrial WSNs. [9][10][11] There are mainly two kinds of solutions to ensure the transmission reliability, including avoiding and recovering packet loss. The typical solutions are Automatic Repeat-reQuest (ARQ) protocol and multi-path routing.…”
