A suspension system with quasi-zero stiffness characteristics and inerter nonlinear energy sink

Abstract: In this article, a novel vibration control scheme of suspension systems is proposed. It combines the advantages of quasi-zero stiffness isolator, nonlinear energy sink absorber, and inerter. This proposed scheme can achieve low transmissibility, low amplitude, and low additional weight and resolve the conflict between riding comfort and handling stability. Strong nonlinear vibration equations of a quarter-vehicle suspension system are established. It also presents the detailed process of high-order harmonic ap… Show more

“…4. NES with inerter [135][136][137][138][139][140]: In the inerter NES, the NES mass is either replaced by an inerter or accompanied with it to achieve a significant reduction in the NES mass which maintains or improves the optimized efficiency of vibration suppression [135,136]. The NES mass in [137] is kept and attached to an inerter of small mass fraction of the original linear system.…”

“…When the inerter mass is equal to the NES mass, the vibration response of the structure has been considerably reduced compared to the case of using the NES without inerter. In recent studies, the inerter NES has been further investigated with a suspension system by using a quasi-zero stiffness in [138], by using an asymmetric nonlinear energy sink in [139] and for suppressing torsional vibration in [140]. 5.…”

“…This kind of absorber with strong nonlinearity is called a nonlinear energy sink (NES) (Ding and Chen, 2020). At present, the NES has been used in the vibration mitigation of suspension systems (Zeng et al, 2020), airfoil systems (Fasihi et al, 2021), and pipes conveying fluid (TZ Yang et al, 2014).…”

“…The equation of motion of the pipe system with dry friction is derived through the generalized Hamilton's principle. From a perspective of vibration control [25][26][27][28][29], by taking advantage of the energy-consumption characteristic of the dry friction, the dry friction is also expected to be effective at adjusting/controlling the stability and dynamics of the system of pipes conveying fluid.…”
