A Synergetic Sliding Mode Controller Applied to Direct Field-Oriented Control of Induction Generator-Based Variable Speed Dual-Rotor Wind Turbines

Abstract: A synergetic sliding mode (SSM) approach is designed to address the drawbacks of the direct field-oriented control (DFOC) of the induction generators (IGs) integrated into variable speed dual-rotor wind power (DRWP) systems with the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique. Using SSM controllers in the DFOC strategy, the active power, electromagnetic torque, and reactive power ripples are reduced compared to traditional DFOC using proportional-integral (PI) controllers. This proposed strategy, associated … Show more

“…Another robust strategy was proposed in [27] to minimize the ripple of electromagnetic torque of the induction generator-based dual-rotor wind power. This proposed method combines two different nonlinear methods: the SMC method, where chattering phenomenon is its biggest disadvantage compared to other nonlinear methods, and the synergetic control method, where simplicity is the biggest advantage that distinguishes it compared to other nonlinear methods.…”

“…However, the proposed nonlinear strategy is more robust and easier to implement and further reduces the chattering phenomenon compared to traditional SMC control. Using a research direction similar to the one in [27], the merger between the synergetic control and super twisting algorithm was proposed to reduce the ripple of electromagnetic torque of the AG-based dual-rotor wind turbine [28]. This proposed nonlinear strategy is more robust compared to traditional controllers such as the PI controller and SMC.…”

“…This method is used to ameliorate the effectiveness and efficiency of the DPC and DTC of the asynchronous generator [37,38]. Synergetic control and the SMC method are combined to minimize the chattering phenomenon and ameliorate the characteristics of the quality current of the ASG [39]. This designed strategy is a simple nonlinear technique that can reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD) of current compared to that of the traditional strategy.…”

“…Stemming from the desirable merits of SMC approaches, such as fast dynamic response, good transient performance, stability, and robustness to matched parameter uncertainties, it has established itself as one of the most effective strategies to deal with different linear and nonlinear control problems [16][17][18][19]. In this regard, due to the highly nonlinear behavior of WECSs, power control and performance enhancement of these systems have been the topic of many SMC-based control strategies during the past decade [20][21][22].…”
