“…The body may also be affected by sarcoid lesions. 56 Sarcoidosis in childhood and youth presents in two age-dependent, distinct forms. When pressure is applied with a glass slide or a dermoscope, the erythematous coloration fades and the yellow-brown color (often described as resembling the hue of apple jelly) can be clearly appreciated.…”

“…55 Syringotropic sarcoidosis is a recently described variant of sarcoidosis characterized by erythematous patches or plaques predominantly affecting the extensor aspect of the lower limbs, with histologic evidence of sarcoidal granulomas mainly localized around sweat glands and exhibiting defective sweating responses. 56 Sarcoidosis in childhood and youth presents in two age-dependent, distinct forms. Early-onset sarcoidosis, which occurs in children aged under five years, involves the triad of exanthema, arthritis, and uveitis, along with recurrent fever and no apparent pulmonary involvement.…”

“…Verrucous sarcoidosis is an uncommon variant which may mimic squamous cell carcinoma clinically (Stockman et al 2013 ). Another rare variant is syringotropic sarcoidosis, which presents as multiple erythematous patches or plaques on the lower extremities (Hayakawa et al 2013 ). Interestingly, the sweating responses to thermal stress were reported to be markedly diminished in these cases.…”

“…Scar sarcoidosis refers to sarcoidosis involving a preexisting scar, including post-herpes zoster scars (Selim et al 2006 ). An interesting fi nding in the syringotropic variant was the profoundly decreased expression of dermcidin and aquaporin 5 in the affected sweat glands (Hayakawa et al 2013 ). In verrucous sarcoidosis, there is verrucous pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia of the overlying epidermis (Stockman et al 2013 ).…”
