Leadership and bisexuality: Dually occurring processes of identity development

“…While the LID model has been used to understand how individuals develop their leader identity, there has not been direct studies that have made connections to bisexual individuals and the influences that affect both of these dually occurring identity development processes. Prieto et al (2023) found the experiences of bisexual college students can be mapped onto developmental and ecological models, providing evidence to support that these influences shape our identity from a multitude of systems and perspectives. Guthrie et al ( 2021) specifically reminded us how, "…social identities all intersect with your leader identity" (p. 29) and as we start to think about the ways that leader identity is a developmental process, going through bisexual identity development can heavily influence one's other intersectional identities.…”

These findings showcase the call we have to further research and investigate bisexuality and bisexual identity development as a process across a multitude of contexts to better serve this population of leaders and leadership educators.…”
