“…The findings contribute to the ongoing debate in previous arguments by confirming that information practices, as an inseparable and natural aspect of individuals' social practices, are shaped and maintained in specific sociocultural contexts (Lloyd & Olsson, 2019; McKenzie, 2003). The study further extends the previous arguments that information practices are viewed as being shaped and maintained in particular contexts (Zhong et al, 2022) and reemphasizes the significant roles of information practitioners (Tabak, 2014; Talja & McKenzie, 2007) by highlighting that information practices reflect the interplay between their goals and capabilities and the contextual background.…”

“…Second, the findings contribute a new theoretical typology of information practices—exploration versus exploitation—that extends the repertoire of existing typologies (Allen et al, 2019; Zhong et al, 2022). The specific information activities identified for each type also specify Savolainen's (2008) model of information seeking, information use, and information sharing.…”

“…As distinct from information behavior research based on cognitive constructivism (Carey et al, 2001; Costello & Floegel, 2021; Savolainen, 1995), information practice studies based on social constructivism aim to reveal people's information activities and the multiple factors influencing these activities (Savolainen, 2008; Zhong et al, 2022), describing the information world constructed by the interaction of individuals and their socio‐cultural contexts (Savolainen et al, 2009). Given that this paper is based on a specific context and a specific group of people, it is necessary to examine both the context and the internal characteristics.…”
