“…Since we are arguing that theoretically grounded research that offers insights on important organizational phenomena is valued at JOM , it is incumbent on us to define what we mean by “important.” Important phenomena are those that reflect (a) “pressing managerial questions” (i.e., issues, actions, or decisions that managers frequently deal with and that have substantive organizational implications; e.g., Qian, Balaji, Crilly, & Liu, 2023); (b) “grand challenges,” such as the effects of the climate crisis on employees, managers, or organizations, or the effects of aging populations in core markets (e.g., Weber, Shantz, Kistruck, & Lount, 2023); or (c) “timely topics” (i.e., emerging issues that have significant currency and are of growing importance, such as AI’s impact on organizations; e.g., Choudhary, Marchetti, Shrestha, & Puranam, 2023; Zhang, Li, & Tong, 2023).
