A testbed to simulate and analyze resilient cyber-physical systems

Abstract: This paper describes a testbed for development, deployment, testing, and analysis of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) applications. The testbed incorporates smart network hardware, allowing high-fidelity emulation of CPS network characteristics, and CPS simulation environments to enable high-frequency sensor reading, actuator control and physical environmental changes. We discuss the architecture of this testbed and present the types of experiments and applications which can be run to study hardware and software f… Show more

“…Various research has addressed experimental architectures and testing of networked systems in multiple domains. A test-bed for the development, deployment, testing, and analysis of networked systems is introduced in [5], [6]. The test-bed is able to test the fault tolerance and reconfiguration capabilities of the algorithms, as well as test the system's stability.…”

“…UAV swarms are among those systems that require thorough testing but are difficult to test in controlled environments. Simulations cannot mimic the varied and extreme variables they might face [150]. Resiliency assessment is a process of observing and evaluating the resilient behavior of UAV swarms to disruptions.…”

“…There is a development need for comprehensive testbeds and simulators for the testing of multiple resilient framework interactions with each other. Current simulators have hardware or software limitations, lack features, or face interfacing issues [150]. There is also a gap between developed protocols and the availability of synthetic data to test them on.…”
