“…The water-free (wf) composition of the fuel is presented in Table 4. According to former studies (Schuster et al, 2002;Bilodeau et al, 1993;Fiaschi and Michelini, 2001;Liliedahl and Sjöström, 1997;Wang and Kinoshita, 1993) as well as extensive measurements at the process development unit used in this work and at the biomass combined heat and power plant in Guessing Loeffler et al, 2003;Kaiser et al, 2003) it can be assumed that the char consists of pure carbon. The tar composition is measured for every experiment according to the method described in chapter 3.2.…”

“…It is common to model the initial devolatilization as complete and instantaneous (Gungor, 2011;Basu and Kaushal, 2009;Fiaschi and Michelini, 2001). That is, regardless of where the biosolids enter, the moisture is vaporized and some products (CO, CO 2 , H 2 , CH 4 , tar, and solid char) are given off.…”

“…In this model, on the contrary to other studies [17], the hydrodynamic parameters in the fluidized bed were considered, besides the transport and thermodynamic properties, since they affect both the mass and heat interchange coefficients between the bubble and emulsion phases. In addition, different fluidized bed gasifier models were developed in literature [18]- [19], but in most of them tar were not studied or studied as one single lump and, in any case, not in presence of olivine as bed material. In this work, benzene, toluene, phenol and naphthalene were taken into account as most representatives of tar [20]- [21], aiming at improving the accuracy of the model: the kinetic models for tar conversion were extrapolated by literature using olivine as bed material, since it is a good natural catalyst for the primary conversion of tar directly in the fluidized bed [22].…”
