“…12 Previous studies have reported the absence of the inferior wall of the CC, which had an incidence of only 1 in 325 cases, while in other studies, 5 cases were found in 307 skulls. 13,14 The measurements of the CC are noted in previous studies, such as the one by Watanabe et al, and the transverse diameter in normal Japanese adults was of 5.27 AE 0.62 mm, whereas it was shorter (3.31 AE 0.44 mm) in patients with adult-onset moyamoya disease with ICA stenosis. 9 The comparison of our parameters with the parameters of other authors is shown in ►Tables 4, 5 and 6.…”

“…Pastor Vazques et al studied 538 skulls for the abnormalities of the floor of the carotid canal and only in 2 skulls they found bilateral absence of carotid canal 6 . Similarly Sharma, PK et al found absence of the floor of the carotid canal in only one skull, out of 325 skulls studied 10 . Mohamed Abo Aoun et al reported that the inferior wall is seen defected in 5 skulls of all specimens (3.3%), while the superior wall is found defected only in one skull (0.66%) 5 .…”

“…Mohamed Abo Aoun et al reported that the inferior wall is seen defected in 5 skulls of all specimens (3.3%), while the superior wall is found defected only in one skull (0.66%) 5 . Studies on the variants of carotid canal reported that it may be unilateral 3 or bilateral 10 . Other studies suggested that absence of the floor and agenesis of the carotid canal is associated with agenesis of the carotid artery 1,8 .…”
