SummaryFollowing the intravenous injection of auric chloride-198Au adsorbed onto carbon particles in dogs, the radioactivity disappeared from the circulation very rapidly to collect in the lung which contained 97.6% ± 1.3 of the injected dose. This amount was evenly distributed between the right and left lungs with a higher tendency to localization in the basal regions. The almost total extraction of the radioactive material by the lungs made it possible to obtain good photoscan pictures for these organs. As regards the fate of the carbon particles, it was shown that they were ultimately discharged through the bronchial tree.Lastly, radiogold on carbon was used to investigate the problem of stream line flow in the portal venous system. The obtained results prove beyond doubt the absence of constant portal stream lining in dogs.
