A Wideband Circularly Polarised Cross-Slot Antenna with an L-Shaped Feed-Line

Abstract: This paper presents a new wideband and circularly polarised (CP) slot antenna realised by using an L-shaped feed underneath the cross-slot antenna, and tapered to the conventional microstrip feed-line. The proposed antenna is fabricated with an area of 75 × 80 mm 2 . The simulated results showed that the antenna had an impedance matching bandwidth of 34% from 1.3 to 1.83 GHz, and an axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 20% from 1.36 to 1.66 GHz. A maximum gain value of 3.4 -3.8 dBi has been achieved within the operat… Show more

“…Table 4 summarizes the antenna parameters, RLBW, and ARBW of previous studies and this current research. Given the target L-band frequency (1-2 GHz), the ARBW of the proposed antenna scheme (77.87%) was significantly wider than that of [13,15] (19.86% and 36.87%, respectively). In comparison with [16,[22][23][24], for C-and S-band applications (30.8-72.9%), the proposed antenna scheme could achieve a wider ARBW (77.87%).…”

“…However, the existing inverted L-shaped strip antennas for L-band applications achieved an unsatisfactory ARBW (19.86% and 36.87%) [13,15]. As a result, this research proposes an inverted L-shaped patch antenna with a corner-truncated partial ground plane diagonally adjoined with a square branch for L-band applications.…”

“…A wide range of CP antennas have been reported to have a wide axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) to cope with the high channel capacity demanded by modern wireless systems. For example, this can be realised using slot antennas with L-shaped feedlines [3], vertical Lshaped ground planes [4], cross dipoles in the presence of phase delay lines [5][6][7] or asymmetric T-strips fed via coplanar waveguides [8]. Monopole antennas are also a common approach to achieve wideband CP antennas [9][10][11].…”
