A Wireless Power Transfer System Using a Double DD Quadrature Coil Structure

Abstract: This paper presents the evolution of an inductive wireless power transfer using a multicoil system. The double DD coil structure on the transmitter and the receiver side using two perpendicular bipolar DD coils is upgraded with an additional nonpolar quadrature coil. The proposed structure can be called the double DDQ coil structure. All three coils are not coupled, due to the nature of the directional double DD coil. If the transmitter and the receiver are not misaligned to one another, the system behaves as … Show more

“…Although the studies of Qu et al and Zhuang et al 18,19 obtain relatively high efficiency, they 18 require more coil material consumption, and both of them do not focus on the misalignment tolerance on the whole x‐axis. It is worth noting that the study of Domajnko and Prosen 21 explores the misalignment tolerance along the entire x‐axis, but its efficiency is lower than that of this paper. Moreover, this work employs two DD coils and a Q coil on each side and requires three rectifiers, which makes the receiving side complex.…”

“…To the authors' knowledge, most investigations have focused on the positive offset direction. 18,19,21 Contrastingly, there is a lack of research on the power transmission ability of DDQ coils along both positive and negative x-axis directions. This limitation can result in lower transmission efficiency for vehicles that are offset toward the mismatched position, thereby limiting the further application of DDQ coils.…”

“…Research on omni-directional receivers was developed to reduce power transmission loss due to misalignment in wireless power transmission [2,3]. A study was undertaken to reduce the change in output due to the misalignment of electronic devices and electric vehicles using relay coils [4,5]. An analysis and design study strived to improve the Q-factor to increase the transmission distance in two-coil-type wireless power transmission [6].…”
