A Woman With Neck Swelling and Cardiac Arrest

Abstract

An 80-year-old woman with a medical history of obesity, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension was admitted to the general medical ward of a regional hospital for low-grade fever and dysuria; she was treated for a urinary tract infection with amoxicillin and clavulanate by the parent team. On admission, she also complained of vague and fleeting chest discomfort. Her BP was 128/78 mm Hg; her heart rate was 73 beats/min, and her oxygen saturation was 99% on room air. Physical examinations of her cardiovascular, respiratory, and abdominal systems were unremarkable.
