Aberrant gene expression of superoxide dismutases in Chlamydia trachomatis-infected recurrent spontaneous aborters

Abstract: Study aimed to characterize the expression of antioxidant genes SOD1 and SOD2 in Chlamydia trachomatis-induced recurrent spontaneous aborters and further determine their role by in silico analysis. First void urine was collected from 130 non-pregnant women with history of recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) (Group I) and 130 non-pregnant women (Group II; control) attending Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, SJH, New Delhi, India. C. trachomatis detection was performed by conventional PCR in urine. Gene exp… Show more

“…Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are closely associated with a number of physiological and pathological functions and may influence the function of trophoblast and outcome of pregnancy (Dos Anjos Cordeiro et al, 2023;Ye et al, 2023). More recently, Ray et al reported that the single nucleotide polymorphisms and expression level of SOD1 and SOD2 are associated with C. trachomatisinfected recurrent spontaneous abortion RSA (Ray et al, 2022(Ray et al, , 2023. These studies indicate that SOD1 may be an important potential factor related to RSA.…”

“…C. trachomatis is an intracellular sexually transmitted pathogen with a biphasic life cycle consisting of the elementary body as the infectious form and reticulate body as the metabolically active noninfectious form [2]. The association of C. trachomatis and pregnancy complications including RSA has been reported in serum, endometrial tissue and urine in several studies but the mechanistic approach utilized by the pathogen to induce abortion is still under active investigation [3][4][5][6]. C. trachomatis targets the columnar epithelial cells of the female genital tract.…”
