“…The risk assessments of perfluoroalkyls or PFOA from EFSA (Knutsen et al, 2018), US-EPA (US-EPA, 2016), UBA (Umweltbundesamt, 2018), and RIVM (RIVM, 2016) were selected for analysis. The PDAT was applied to analyze the argumentation for the selection of health endpoints of concern; to infer causality between exposure to PFOA and selected adverse health effects and the choice of toxicological or epidemiological data.…”

“…In this article, the consideration of toxicological and epidemiological data in the actual practice of risk assessment is analyzed using argumentation analysis, without reviewing the derivation of the HBGV itself. Because argumentation analysis is laborious and time-consuming, our analysis is limited to one chemical (PFOA) and to risk assessments of the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA), the Umweltbundesamt (UBA) and the United Stated Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA) of the perfluoroalkyl compound perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) (Knutsen et al, 2018;RIVM, 2016;Umweltbundesamt, 2018;US-EPA, 2016). Past and present exposures to perfluoralkyls via the environment have raised concern among residents in the United States of America and Europe about possible adverse health effects.…”
