Abstract: An increasing number of studies have reported a deleterious role of inorganic phosphate (Pi) in promoting hypertension. Previously, we have shown high Pi diet-induced excessive pressor and sympathetic responses to muscle contraction in otherwise normal rats, which were primarily mediated by an overactive exercise pressor reflex (EPR), a reflex arising from contracting muscle.
