Abstract: Background and purpose: Stroke incidence, prevalence and mortality have decreased in high-income countries, while in the last decades there has been an increasing trend in low- to middle-income nations, where ischemic (IS) and hemorrhagic stroke (HS) are still major causes of death and disability.
