Abstract: All protein kinase C activators are not equivalent. Whereas phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) is the paradigmatic tumor promoter, bryostatin 1 or ingenol 3-angelate are in clinical trials as cancer chemotherapeutic agents.
