Abstract:The response to hypoxia in tissues is regulated by the heterodimeric transcription factor hypoxia inducible factor-1 (HIF-1). We have investigated the transcriptional effects of hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α) in the heart by expressing an oxygen-stable form of HIF-1α in cardiac myocytes of transgenic mice. The result in most cases is regulation of an expected panoply of genes that restore homeostasis during hypoxia, with corresponding phenotypic changes including contractile dysfunction and increase… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
