Introduction. Reproductive autonomy enables a person to freely decide their life plan, including sexual and reproductive health. However, its exercise can be constrained by health determinants and other structural conditions. Knowing the background of women who undergo a Legal Interruption of Pregnancy (LIP) helps identify patterns of inequality and their impact on the exercise of reproductive autonomy. Objective. To analyze the profile of women who legally terminate a pregnancy in Mexico City. Method. Latent class analysis, with the participation of 274 women who terminated a first trimester pregnancy at a public facility. Results. Model of two latent classes: adult (68.34%) and young women (31.65%). Stigma was the predictor variable for class; the higher the score, the lower the probability of belonging to the adult group (p = .019). Adult women were characterized by having lower educational attainment, engaging in unpaid activities, having at least one child, and having had previous abortions, having experienced intimate partner violence in the past twelve months and reporting that their partners did not agree with the interruption of their pregnancy. Young women were students, partnered and reported that their partners had agreed with them to request an abortion. Discussion and conclusion. Despite the legal changes effected, stigma is still present in the abortion demand and access, particularly for women with certain characteristics. It would be useful to include interventions to reduce stigma in counseling, using an approach based on previous experience.

Public health training cannot be practiced in isolation, but rather within the framework of substantive conceptual visions, the organizational structure and teaching culture in a broad sense. The School of Public Health of Mexico (ESPM), in the mist of its 100th anniversary, is implementing an educational restructure with the guidance of conceptual and ethical principles. The restructure of the academic programs will follow a constructivist pedagogical model, based on renewed institutional practices that integrates research, teaching and community outreach, making for truly transformative learning. The new design of the whole structure of its academic programs has the objetive of making them flexible, less technical-based but more practical, and a within an unified curricular system that articulates and allows continuity between master’s degrees and doctorates programs. In the new structure, the curriculum will have a common core for all the academic programs, emerging from the study of the essential bases of public health, human rights, including gender and social perspectives, principles of global health, ethics of public health practice, environmental and animal health inferences and community outreach in the form of social retribution. The Institute’s research groups will be the functional units for investigation and teaching, thus students will be integrated into these at an early stage, under the guidance of a tutor. In this context, the requirements for a comprehensive, unifying and at the same time flexible curriculum will support training of Public Health with a holistic approach. The current programs were analyzed including the review of their courses, regarding the pertinence of their contents and proposed competencies. We present herein a description of these observations, and propose a new common core (conceptual-operative) with compulsory courses as the base for all programs. The participation of all academic bodies in reviewing the proposed new common core, as well as the syllabus and courses, identified those that are essential in each program’s study concentration area, is indicated.

Se analiza el ajuste al modelo unifactorial de las cuatro versiones de la Escala de Capacidad adquirida para el suicidio (Acquired Capability for Suicide Scale, ACSS, ACSS-5, ACSS-8, ACSS-FAD) en su adaptación al español. Método: Participaron estudiantes de secundaria (n=368), bachillerato (n=237) y universidad (n=240). Resultados: El modelo ACSS-FAD mostró los mejores índices de ajuste y presenta invarianza factorial parcial por sexo. Además, de una fiabilidad adecuada (α=.77, ω=.81); se encontraron diferencias entre personas sin intento suicida (M=18.05; DE=6.52; t(358)=1.87; gl=358; p<.05; d=.67) y con intento de suicidio (M=21.13; DE=2.06). Conclusión: El modelo de la ACSS-FAD presenta adecuadas propiedades psicométricas para evaluar la capacidad adquirida de suicidio en la dimensión que evalúa ausencia de miedo a la muerte en muestras mexicanas de adolescentes y jóvenes.
