At present, the existing teaching construction information fusion methods are based on the classification results of teaching resources, but ignoring the global intelligent optimization of the fusion results, which leads to the deviation of the grassroots teaching organization construction information fusion results, and the fusion index value is low. Therefore, the information fusion method of the grassroots teaching organization construction based on intelligent optimization is proposed. The basic framework of information fusion is designed, and the information fusion is divided into the data layer, characteristic layer, and decision layer. The information characteristics of the construction of grassroots teaching organizations were extracted. The particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to search the maximum value of the work entropy of teaching grassroots unit, and the threshold value of teacher construction and grassroots unit work is used to realize the information fusion of teaching grassroots unit construction. Experimental results show that the proposed method has higher error rate, stability, efficiency index, and higher information fusion value and accuracy than the traditional method.

Gig qualifications for the gig economy: micro-credentials and the ‘hungry mile’

This paper argues that micro-credentials are gig credentials for the gig economy. Micro-credentials are short competency-based industry-aligned units of learning, while the gig economy comprises contingent work by individual ‘suppliers’. Both can be facilitated by (often the same) digital platforms, and both are underpinned by social relations of precariousness in the labour market and in society. They are mutually reinforcing and each has the potential to amplify the other. Rather than presenting new opportunities for social inclusion and access to education, they contribute to the privatisation of education by unbundling the curriculum and blurring the line between public and private provision in higher education. They accelerate the transfer of the costs of employment preparation, induction, and progression from governments and employers to individuals. Micro-credentials contribute to ‘disciplining’ higher education in two ways: first by building tighter links between higher education and workplace requirements (rather than whole occupations), and through ensuring universities are more ‘responsive’ to employer demands in a competitive market crowded with other types of providers. Instead of micro-credentials, progressive, democratic societies should seek to ensure that all members of society have access to a meaningful qualification that has value in the labour market and in society more broadly, and as a bridge to further education. This is a broader vision of education in which the purpose of education is to prepare individuals to live lives they have reason to value, and not just in the specifics required of particular jobs.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide an authentic and relevant way of sharing our realisation of the significance of integrating employability skills in assessment practice. This is supported from the anecdotal evidence received from students, which show that the inclusion and assessment of employability skills has provided them with an artifact that demonstrates the employability skills required for the continually changing future and workplace. For staff, the ability to assess and give feedback on the acquisition of employability skills makes it a more enjoyable experience. Design/methodology/approach Due to the short rollout period and pivot to online learning, there has not been an opportunity to undertake a comprehensive and formal data collection. However, anecdotal evidence has been collected from students and staff on the experience of the student-created video assignment in a completely online environment. Findings This paper establishes how a student video assessment contributes to students’ acquisition, development and enhancement of employability skills, such as communication and teamwork skills, that are central for preparing students for continually evolving future and thus the “new normal” brought forward by COVID-19. Practical implications This paper enables the authors to share their experiences and provision of their resources so that other teaching academics are able to design their own assessment task that contributes to students’ acquisition, development and enhancement of employability skills. Originality/value The originality of this paper is the application of integrating employability skills in assessment practice and the associated rubric as way to build students’ employability skills in the post-COVID world.
