Accelerated Corrosion Tests in Quality Labels for Powder Coatings on Galvanized Steel—Comparison of Requirements and Experimental Evaluation

Abstract: Powder coatings are widely applied for corrosion protection of steel, aluminum, and hot dip galvanized steel in a variety of corrosive environments. Powder coatings are subjected to a number of strict laboratory tests to determine their mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and color stability. Among European quality certificates for powder coatings applied to galvanized steel, the most commonly recognized are GSB-ST and Qualisteelcoat certificates, which also refer to the EN 13438 standard. Certificate… Show more

“…Neutral and acid salt spray tests are commonly utilized to evaluate the corrosion resistance of materials, coatings, or specimens [26][27][28], where the acid salt spray test is more rigorous for acidic environments [29]. The addition of acetic acid can accelerate the corrosion process, with an acceleration effect three times faster than that of a neutral environment [30].…”

“…Based on these observations, this study aims to evaluate the limitations of using |Z 0.01Hz | (i.e., at 10 mHz, |Z 0.01Hz |) extrapolated from EIS plots for the study of painted steel and hot-dip galvanized steel specimens when subjected to accelerated aging tests such as the continuous neutral salt spray test (NSST) and the cyclic prohesion test. These aging tests are among the most widely used in the industrial field, both for quality control and new product development [44][45][46][47]. Moreover, different corrosion mechanisms could be triggered by the two types of environmental stresses, and the results of the electrochemical reactions may also be different.…”

“…The paint coating of desired color, effect and structure serves to decrease effects of the atmosphere on the zinc. [6] Other application is in medicine, especially in the dentistry. Implants used in treatment are mostly made of titanium and its alloys.…”
