Accelerated crystallization of zeolites via hydroxyl free radicals

Abstract: In the hydrothermal crystallization of zeolites from basic media, hydroxide ions (OH(-)) catalyze the depolymerization of the aluminosilicate gel by breaking the Si,Al-O-Si,Al bonds and catalyze the polymerization of the aluminosilicate anions around the hydrated cation species by remaking the Si,Al-O-Si,Al bonds. We report that hydroxyl free radicals (•OH) are involved in the zeolite crystallization under hydrothermal conditions. The crystallization processes of zeolites-such as Na-A, Na-X, NaZ-21, and silica… Show more

“…In general, the surface area values of ZSM‐5 zeolites obtained via many techniques are in the range 400 to 800 m 2 g ‐1 . In this work, the surface area values of the samples have variations from 260 to 399 m 2 g ‐1 , which is in agreement with some reported works . Strictly speaking, the BET area derived from nitrogen adsorption at 77 K for micropores containing material is controversial.…”

“…Therefore, the formation of β-Bi 2 O 3 crystals is easy in these films at a low temperature (250 °C) (Figure S3c). The further UV irradiation accelerates crystallization23101245 in a matrix that is dense enough to allow the effective coalescence of the formed crystallites (Table S1). These crystallites will work like seeds for the full crystallization of the tetragonal β-Bi 2 O 3 phase as the irradiation time at 250 °C or the annealing temperature is increased (Figs 1b and S3d), under favorable not-constrained boundary conditions.…”

“…Because of its high oxidizing potential, the hydroxyl radical nonselectively reacts with numerous organic substances at near diffusion-controlled rates, [1] thus playing au nique role in biochemical processes, [2] inorganic and organic synthesis, [3] DNA structurei dentification, [4] and wastewater treatment. Hydroxyl radicals formed on the NCM surface, diffusing into the bulk solution under irradiation.…”
