Accumulation of heavy metals in soil and litter of roadside plantations in Western Polissia of Ukraine

Abstract: The article presents the results of a study on the influence of roadside forest belts of different species composition on the accumulation of heavy metals in soil and litter along roads of international and national importance in the conditions of Western Polissia of Ukraine. Mobile forms of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in soil and forest litter samples were determined in ammonium acetate extract buffer by atomic absorption spectrometry. The analysis of the content of heavy metals, their comparison with the maximum allow… Show more

“…Atomic absorption spectrophotometer is a laboratory stationary indicating and self-recording device of periodic action. The determination of heavy metal is carried out according to the approved "Methodology of measurements using the C 115-M1 atomic absorption spectrophotometer" (Maksimtsev et al, 2021;Trokhymenko et al, 2012). For the pollution level determination sampling was carried out at different distances from the source of pollution, namely (Fig.…”

“…The dispensation of Cd, K, Na, Pb, and Zn during incineration at temperatures up to 960 °C was online monitored, and some insights were discovered about the behavior of such metals and the chemistry implicated in the volatilization process (Tarik et al, 2021). At the same time, in the other monitoring studies the mobile forms of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn were determined in ammonium acetate buffer extract by atomic absorp-tion spectrometry (Maksimtsev et al, 2021).…”

“…Such plantings are capable of accumulating atmospheric carbon depending on the characteristics of their aboveground phytomass (Khodash, 2010;Ziegler et al, 2016). S. Maksimtsev et al (2021) noted that in addition to these factors, windbreaks, especially roadside windbreaks, play a crucial role in protecting adjacent areas from the spread of heavy metals generated by traffic emissions. These plantations serve a dual function: on one hand, they protect transportation routes from adverse natural and climatic factors and the dispersion of harmful emissions from vehicles, and on the other hand, they provide protection for adjacent agricultural fields.…”
