Accuracy and precision of ScvO2 measured with the CeVOX-device: A prospective study in patients with a wide variation of ScvO2-values

Abstract: IntroductionCentral-venous oxygen saturation (ScvO2) is a key parameter of hemodynamic monitoring and has been suggested as therapeutic goal for resuscitation. Several devices offer continuous monitoring features. The CeVOX-device (Pulsion Medical Systems) uses a fibre-optic probe inserted through a conventional central-venous catheter (CVC) to obtain continuous ScvO2.ObjectivesSince there is a lack of studies validating the CeVOX, we prospectively analyzed data from 24 patients with CeVOX-monitoring. To incre… Show more

“…Mixed venous oxygen saturation in the pulmonary artery can be obtained by introducing a Swan–Ganz catheter into the pulmonary artery and measuring the oxygen saturation in an extracted sample of mixed venous blood via blood gases analysis. Pulmonary artery catheters are introduced through a central vein, the right atrium and ventricle, and because their use has been limited, measurement of oxygen saturation in central veins—superior and inferior vena cava—has been suggested as a surrogate for mixed venous oxygen saturation measurement [ 27 , 28 , 29 ].…”

“…The oximetric probe consisted of two optical fibers with a small gap between their tips ( Figure 2 ), which was introduced into the vein. One of the fibers transmits two-wavelengths of light into the blood in the gap between the optical fibers and the second fiber guides the transmitted light to the detector [ 17 , 29 , 30 ].…”

“…Подавляющее большинство авторов считают, что методика не работает, как заявлено. Часть придерживаются мнения о том, что простое измерение газов крови более информативно, что данная система не работает у нестабильных пациентов [28]. ), LIDCOplus может быть в некоторой степени заменой инвазивному мониторингу в части точности измерений [29].…”
