Accuracy of Triple Test Score in The Diagnosis of Palpable Breast Lump

Abstract: Breast lump is a very sensitive issue for the patient so a reliable, non invasive and prompt diagnosishelps to lessen the associated anxiety and leads to early definitive treatment. The aim of this studywas to evaluate the acuracy of Triple Test Score (TTS) as a clinical tool for the diagnosis of a palpablebreast lump. This diagnostic test study was carried out in the Department of Surgery of TribhuvanUniversity Teaching Hospital. Of the 117 patients admitted with breast diseases from the breastclinic over thi… Show more

“…Through CBA, the evaluating clinician collects historical information regarding a patient's breast complaints (lump, thickening, nipple discharge, focal pain, duration of symptoms, etc) and integrates it with findings on CBE to develop a differential diagnosis, which, in turn, drives the selection of diagnostic imaging tests and tissue sampling. The triple‐test combination of clinical assessment, radiologic imaging, and tissue pathology has been shown to be a reliable framework for breast diagnosis with high sensitivity and specificity, even in the setting of LMICs 33,34 …”

“…23 Triple test score (physical examination, mammography and fi ne needle aspiration cytology, each component is designated as benign, suspicious and malignant and rated as 1, 2, and 3, respectively) can be an accurate diagnostic modality to initiate defi nitive treatment of breast carcinoma specially in our context where frozen section is not routinely available. 24 Percutaneous core needle biopsy (CNB) has widely replaced cytology obtained by fi ne-needle aspiration, and is the established method of sampling imagedetected lesions. 25 CNB provides more information than FNAC and assists in planning therapy before surgery in women with cancer, as it reliably distinguishes between invasive and in-situ disease, and allows determination of hormone and growth factor receptors.…”

“…Study published by Ghimire B, Khan MI, Bibhusal T et al, accuracy of Triple assessment in the diagnosis of palpable breast lump, patients were categorized into benign, suspicious and malignant by Triple assessment (physical examination, mammography and fine needle aspiration cytology). [9] This was later correlated with the histopathological findings. Nineteen patients with breast lumps interpreted by triple assessment as benign correlated with the histopathological findings whereas of 31 malignant lumps, 30 turned out to be malignant and one benign.…”
