Accurate performance assessment of IM with approximate current unbalance factor for NEMA definition

Abstract: The indices, namely, line voltage unbalance ratio (LVUR) and voltage unbalance factor (VUF), defined by NEMA and IEC, respectively, were highly recommended amongst the industrial engineers and researchers to quantify the condition of voltage unbalance. However, the existence of infinite voltage sets for fixed value of these indices produces erroneous estimation of voltage unbalance conditions. In this paper, three new indices, namely, maximum current deviation (MCD), combined maximum current deviation (CMCD), … Show more

“…Therefore, in order to measure the asymmetry degree of the generator load, the CUF is used as the reference standard. The CUF is defined as follows [20]:CUF=MAX][||IaIavg||IbIavg||IcIavgIavgIavg=Ia+Ib+Ic3 where I a , I b and I c are the effective values of the three‐phase currents.…”

“…Several studies have been undertaken in order to analyze the relation between these definitions [10], [11]. Moreover, in [12] new unbalance definitions are proposed. In [13] a comparison of the different definitions' behavior under different unbalance cases is given.…”

“…Several standards and publications defined indices to quantify and asses the unbalance conditions such as line voltage unbalance ratio (LVUR) and unbalance current ratio (UCR) . Another commonly used and recommended index defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the voltage unbalance factor (VUF), and it should not exceed 3% …”

“…12 Another commonly used and recommended index defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the voltage unbalance factor (VUF), and it should not exceed 3%. [13][14][15] Several methods are normally used for load balancing such as load reconfiguration. This method depends on distributing loads manually and automatically among the circuits to balance the distribution system using a feeder switch.…”
