Achieving carbon neutrality: How does the construction of national high-tech zones affect the green innovation of enterprises? Based on quasi-natural experiments in pilot areas in China

Abstract: From the standpoint of green patents, verifying the influence of the construction of national high-tech zones on the degree of green innovation of enterprises is of enormous theoretical and practical importance. We construct a multi-period two-difference model to assess the influence of the national high-tech zone policy’s implementation on enterprises’ levels of green innovation. The outcomes of the study show that: first, the establishment of national high-tech zones greatly increases the level of green inno… Show more

“…They explore green, low-carbon, and sustainable development paths to attain the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. Additionally, high-tech zones strive to lead in the development of new energy, new technology, and novel business models within green and low-carbon industries [52,55,64,65]. The concept of urban economic resilience emphasizes elements such as economic diversity, scientific and technological innovation, resource sustainability, crisis response, and international competitiveness.…”

“…High-tech zones concentrate capital, labor, and technology in technologically advanced areas while phasing out polluting, energy-intensive, and inefficient enterprises [55,64]. This shift allows for more effective resource allocation to enterprises with higher productivity, thereby fostering the emergence of new industries.…”

“…From the division of labor channels, Liu et al [22] proposed that the co-agglomeration of the two industries contributes to the pattern where the "producer services industry gathers in central cities while [the] manufacturing industry transfers to outer cities." The producer services industry integrates green innovation elements and provides green innovation services to peripheral manufacturing industries.…”

“…Digital nance in uences the nancing activities of enterprises by broadening nancing channels, simplifying nancing procedures and increasing the supply of nancial resources, thus reducing nancing costs. Therefore, the actual nancing cost can be expressed as the inverse function of the digital nance ( ), and the nancing cost function can be rewritten as formula (11):…”
