Achieving Energy Efficiency in Accordance with Bioclimatic Architecture Principles

Abstract: By using our natural resources, and through inefficient use of energy, we produce much waste that can be recycled as a useful resource, which further contributes to climate change. This study aims to address energy effective bioclimatic architecture principles, by which we can achieve a potential energy savings, estimated at thirty-three per cent, mainly through environmentally affordable reconstruction, resulting in low negative impact on the environment. The study presented in this paper investigated the Ulp… Show more

“…Hence, in this research, housing units and all the houses in the Ulcinj Citadel can greatly utilise those bioclimatic design principles, as a sustainable design strategy. Moreover, those passive cooling methods are in line with legal guidelines for preserving the national built-up heritage, especially in situations like this research when we are dealing with castle two millennia old, thus aiming at sustainable development, and environmental actions as healing strategies (Bajçinovci, jerliu 2016).…”

“…Reduction in ambient air temperature and improvement of ventilation can also reduce energy demand and peak load [9], [36]. The improvement in thermal environment is more pronounced during the afternoon when the heat stress is extreme.…”

“…This rate of health hazard that citizens will suffer is likely to continue in the near decades in Prishtina. The heavy environmental issues in relation to the air pollution, mainly come from: Power Plant Kosovo-A, Power Plant Kosovo-B, heavy traffic, and using coal as the energy source for heating in households, furthermore, issues on the urban design challenges, overall energy efficiency, and public health hazards [17]. Many non-government organizations, individuals, and environmentalists have the official stand that the clean energy investment in Kosovo "will be cheaper, cleaner, and will create more jobs than planned Kosovo -C coal-fired Power Plant", but frankly this alternative does not answer the critical supply problem for electricity in Kosovo.…”
