A good aesthetic outcome is an important endpoint of breast cancer treatment. Subjective ratings, direct physical measurements, measurements on photographs, and assessment by three-dimensional imaging are reviewed and future directions in aesthetic outcome measurements are discussed. Qualitative, subjective scales have frequently been used to assess aesthetic outcomes following breast cancer treatment. However, none of these scales has achieved widespread use because they are typically vague and have low intraobserver and interobserver agreement. Anthropometry is not routinely performed because conducting the large studies needed to validate anthropometric measures (i.e., studies in which several observers measure the same subjects multiple times) is impractical. Quantitative measures based on digital/digitized photographs have yielded acceptable results but have some limitations. Three-dimensional imaging has the potential to enable consistent, objective assessment of breast appearance, including properties (e.g., volume) that are not available from two-dimensional images. However, further work is needed to define three-dimensional measures of aesthetic properties and how they should be interpreted.

Genel anlamda tıbbi görsel dökümantasyon, dar anlamda tıbbi fotoğrafçılık sağlık hizmetlerinin hemen hemen her dalında yer bulan, özellikle eğitim, arşivleme, adli durumlar ve bilimsel yayınlar için sıklıkla başvurulan bir yöntemdir. Sayısal (dijital) teknolojinin gelişmesine kadar, analog (filmli) fotoğraf makineleri ile hastane fotoğrafçıları aracılığıyla kısmen profesyonel düzeyde yürütülen tıbbi fotoğrafçılık, sayısal teknolojinin gelişmesi ile hekimler başta olmak üzere tüm sağlık çalışanlarının kendi sayısal fotoğraf makinelerini edinmesiyle bireyselleşmiş ve nispeten amatör eller tarafından devir alınmıştır. Sağlık profesyonellerinin mesleki fotoğraflarını kendilerinin çekmeye başlaması ile tıbbi görsel kayıt sayısında büyük bir artış olmakla birlikte, elde edilen görüntülerin kalitesinde düşmeye neden olmuştur. Kötü görüntülerin sebebi; sağlık profesyonellerinin temel fotoğraf bilgisine sahip olmaması ve neredeyse bütün ayarları otomatik olan cep telefonu ile kaliteli fotoğraf çekilebileceği ön yargısıdır. Bu nedenle tıbbi fotoğrafçılık kavramının gündeme getirilerek, sayısal fotoğraf makinaları ile gelişen teknoloji birlikteliğinde kaliteli, etik kurallarına uygun tıbbi görüntüler elde etmek zorunlu olmuştur. Bu makalede; daha kaliteli ve etkin tıbbi fotoğraf çekimi için gerekli temel fotoğrafçılık, tıbbi ve etik hassasiyetler üzerinde durulacaktır. In general medical visual documentation, narrowly medical photography, is a method frequently used in almost every branch of health care especially for education, archiving, judicial, and scientific publications. Until the development of digital technology, medical photography, which is carried out professionally through analogue (filmed) photographic machines and hospital photographers, became individualized and relatively acquired by amateur photographers with the development of digital technology and all healthcare professionals, especially physicians, acquiring their digital photographic machines and have been taken over by relatively amateur hands, along with a significant increase in the number of medical visual recordings as health professionals begin to attract professional photographs themselves, it has caused the quality of acquired images to decrease. The reason for bad images; is the premise that health professionals do not have basic photo information and preliminary judgement that quality pictures can be taken with a mobile phone which is almost automatic in all settings. For this reason, bringing the concept of medical photography to the forefont, it has become imperative to obtain medical images suitable for high quality and ethical rules in combination with digital cameras and developing technology. In this article; basic photography, medical and ethical sensitivities required for better quality and effective medical photography taking.
