Acid phosphatases of Esox lucius: tissue distribution and partial characterization

Abstract: The presence of different acid phosphatase classes was examined in organs and tissues of the fish Esox lucius. The enzymes were separated by Sephadex G-200 column chromatography, and characterized as regards tissue distribution, molecular weight, metal ion activation, inhibition, pH optima, temperature sensitivity, rate of hydrolysis and substrate specificity. High and low molecular weight acid phosphatases as well as high and low molecular weight Zn 2+ -dependent acid phosphatases were present in pike organs … Show more

“…In support of this hypothesis, similar APN gene expression levels were detected in the intestine and RT of A. japonicus (Zhao et al, 2014). The results also infer a comparable efficiency of both organs on lipid digestion and on the intracellular digestion of proteins and phosphorylated nutrients (Panara, 1997;Sire & Vernier, 1992). Future studies are necessary to elucidate the role of enzymes in the RT digestive function and to evaluate the possible activity of proteases and other digestive enzymes in this organ.…”

“…AcP was observed in teleost fish testis and efferent ducts. Panara (1997) found 3 forms of AcP in pike (Esox lucius) testis. The molecular weight of one form (20 kDa) was similar to 2 nd fraction described in this manuscript.…”

“…Basic studies on AP in fish tissue have been performed by Panara (1997) in the northern pike, Esox lucius. Structure and function, as well as the amount, of this enzyme are similar to mammals.…”
