Abstract:The effect of Fluorine solutions on the surface and bacterial adhesion of lithium disilicate is a concern. The aim was to evaluate the surface roughness and the adhesion of Streptococcus sanguinis on lithium disilicate ceramic, under the influence of different solutions containing Fluorine. Forty lithium disilicate (IPS e.max Press Impulse) discs (2.5 × 5 mm) was divided into 4 groups (n = 10): artificial saliva (Group AS), 0.2% sodium fluoride (Group NaF), 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride gel (Group APF), and mouthwash (Group MW). Roughness analyses were performed before and after the immersion. The surface aspect was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the adhesion of Streptococcus sanguinis were evaluated after immersion in the solutions. The data obtained were submitted to the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey test (α = 0.05). The Group APF presented a bigger roughness (3.263), statistically different to the other solutions. The bacterial adhesion in the Group APF (5.85) presented statistical difference to the other solutions. The SEM micrographs showed a rougher surface in Group APF. The 1.23% APF gel promoted major surface roughness and bacterial adhesion and could be inadequate for the use of patients with lithium disilicate ceramic restorations. Clinical significance: The Fluorine solution can affect the lithium disilicate ceramics, generating a rough and non-esthetic surface. This altered surface could be susceptible to bacterial adhesion, being directly related with periodontal health, the longevity of the restoration and the success of the rehabilitation.

Aim:The aim of this study is to determine the influence of children's menu diversity on the absorption and excretion of fluoride. Materials and methods:The experimental, longitudinal, quantitative study was carried out in a city without fluoridation in water supply. A total of 16 adult volunteers (>63.9 kg) participated in the study who, after a 12-hour fast, ingested two types of children's meals, whose quantity and diversity were determined after weighing the meals best consumed by children at a kindergarten in Campinas, São Paulo: Simple child meal (SCM; n = 8) and hearty child meal (HCM; n = 8). The fluoride gel residual after professional application (12,300 ppm, 30.75 mg F, pH = 4.65) was simulated 15 minutes after feeding. Saliva samples (in time intervals of 0, 15, 30, and 45 minutes and 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12 hours after ingestion of the fluorine solution) and urine of the volunteers were analyzed at 24 hours. Fluoride concentrations were determined using a selective ion electrode. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance for repeated measurements (PROC MIXED)/Tukey-Kramer. Results:The concentrations of fluoride in saliva at 0 and 15 minutes and after 6 hours were the same between groups (p > 0.05). From 30 minutes to 4 hours after ingestion, the SCM group showed a higher concentration of fluoride in the saliva, which has a higher absorption (p < 0.05). The fluoride concentration in the urine did not differ between groups at both collection times (p > 0.05), and for both, the fluoride concentration in the urine increased in the final measurement (p < 0.05). Conclusion:The children's menu diversity influenced the absorption of fluoride so that the topical application of fluoride should be performed in infants fed preferably after the fuller diet and following the established guidelines to ensure the safety of the procedure. application is important so that the actions of fluoride therapy may be planned in a safer manner and be based on the reality of the universe of children.

Em um estudo recente utilizando blocos de esmalte bovino os autores identificaram 56 proteínas diferentes, embora tenham colhido película formada ex vivo a partir de saliva humana e tenham empregado 40 dentes bovinos para a formação da película em cada grupo (MASSON et al, 2013). Outra diferença em relação ao procedimento de coleta da película no presente estudo, quando comparado aos estudos realizados in vivo SIQUEIRA et al, 2010;OPPENHEIM, 2009;SIQUEIRA et al, 2007;ZIMMERMAN et al, 2013), foi o fato de que, no presente estudo, visando reduzir a proteólise das amostras, foi acrescentado um coquetel contendo inibidor de proteases (Complete, Roche Diagnostics) ao ácido cítrico a 3%, no qual os papeis para coleta de película foram imersos.…”

Madre Paulina RESUMOO objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar as mudanças no perfil protéico em películas adquiridas formadas in situ, em diferentes tempos, sobre o esmalte e sobre a dentina humana após a exposição a dois tipos de ácido: lático e cítrico. Foram utilizados 162 blocos de esmalte e 162 blocos de dentina humana (3X3 mm). Os experimentos foram realizados em três dias consecutivos. Em cada dia, os voluntários (n=9) utilizavam um dispositivo mandibular contendo 6 blocos de esmalte e 6 blocos de dentina. Na sequência, os voluntários permaneceram com o dispositivo na cavidade bucal por 10 ou 120 minutos para formação de película adquirida. Os blocos foram então imersos em ácido cítrico (1%, pH 2,5) ou ácido lático (0,1 M pH 4,8) ou água deionizada por 20 segundos. Na sequência, a película foi removida com um papel de filtro umedecido em ácido cítrico a 3%.
