Acoustical absorptive properties of meltblown nonwovens for textile machinery

Abstract: Noise pollution is one of the harmful physical sources in the textile industry, which is among those industries that are faced with noise exposure problems. The results of environmental sound measurements at modern textile mills have shown that the sound pressure level varied from 95 to 130 dB, where the highest sound pressure level was at weaving machines. Textile insulation materials can be fitted in order to decrease sound pollution at a low cost. The objective of this work is to design a sound absorber tha… Show more

“…33,37,38 The meltblown nonwoven structure has a low areal density, fiber diameter, and average pore diameter resulting in a relatively high coefficient of sound absorption, particularly in the middle-frequency region. 13,14,27 In the case of the multi-layer structure, the STL mainly depends on the sound transmission of the layer directly facing the sound wave. When using a layer of the meltblown fabric over the rubber crumbs/fiber panel and due to the air gap between the two layers, the surface texture of the rubber crumbs is not smooth, therefore keeping air gaps increases the insolation of the panels.…”

“…Nonwovens have been optimally used as thermal and acoustic insulation materials, 15,16 as their lightweight, void-filled structure gives them excellent insulating performance, enabling their use in various industrial fields such as automotive, 17 interior design, 18 transportation, and aeronautics, among others. 19,20 The main objective of this study was the development of new sustainable materials for thermal and acoustic insulation by using natural waste obtained from the processing of hemp fibers in the textile industry. By using wet-laid technology, nonwoven structures with a high content of hemp waste and different proportions of binder fibers were studied.…”
