Acoustical and viscometric studies of buspirone hydrochloride with cobalt(II) and copper(II) ions in aqueous medium

Abstract

Acoustical and Viscometric studies of Buspirone Hydrochloride drug with Cobalt(II) and Copper(II) metal ions in aqueous medium, Journal of Taibah University for Science (2015), http://dx.Abstract: The measurements of Ultrasonic velocities, densities and viscometric studies have been conducted for Buspirone hydrochloride drug (0.01 to 0.1M) of three different concentration range (0.1, 0.05 and 0.025 M) at 298.15 K/ 1atm with aqueous solutions of Cu(II) and Co(II) metal ion. From the obtained experimental data various acoustical parameters such as isentropic compressibility, intermolecular free length, specific acoustic impedance, relative association, free volume, internal pressure, viscous relaxation time, Gibb's free energy, attenuation coefficient, Rao's constant, and Wada's constant have been calculated. The viscosity data have been analyzed with the help of Jones-Dole equation and the values of Falkenhagen coefficient A and Jones-Dole B-coefficient have been calculated. The outcomes of the data have been expressed by the molecular interactions and the variations in these parameters with the varying concentration of solute gives the concluding remarks about intermolecular interactions. IntroductionInteractions of drugs with macromolecules are preferentially important phenomenon in physiological mediums, such as blood, membranes, and intra-and extra-cellular fluids. As most of the biochemical processes occur in aqueous media [1,2]. The ultrasonic and viscometric studies of organic, inorganic and bioactive compounds are very useful for the understanding of the ionic, hydrophilic and hydrophobic interactions in aqueous phase they provide information elucidating the solute-solute and solute-solvent interactions in the solution phase. Such results can be helpful in predicting the absorption of drugs and transport of drugs across the biological membranes and proves helpful to provide information in pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry [3][4][5][6]. Literature survey indicates that Buspirone hydrochloride ( fig.1) has acquired great interest due to its pharmacological and medicinal importance such as anti-anxiety agent, high affinity for Serotonin (5-HT1A) receptors [7-9], however no data is available on its interaction with aqueous solutions of metal ions such as cobalt and copper chlorides: this prompted us to undertake the present studies. The present studies can help in the thermodynamic interpretation of molecular interactions involving Buspirone Hydrochloride with aqueous metal ion solutions. Use of Masson's and Jones–Dole equations to study different types of interactions of three pharmacologically important drugs in ethanol
