ACTH-Independent Hypercorticism in Adrenal Tumors and Adrenocortical Hyperplasia

Abstract: Cortisol production is normally under the regulation of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). Hypercortisolism or Cushing's syndrome, characterized by excessive cortisol levels, may be caused by ACTH-independent mechanisms.
