Action of IGF-I on Expression of the Long Form of the Leptin Receptor (ObRb) in the Prepubertal Period and Throughout the Estrous Cycle in the Mature Pig Ovary

Abstract: Abstract.Leptin is an important satiety hormone and reproductive regulator found, along with its receptors, throughout the ovary. To date, the changes in ovarian expression of leptin receptor during the prepubertal period and throughout the estrous cycle in the pig have not been studied. In this study, the long form of the leptin receptor was a detectable level in immature pig ovarian follicles when assayed using semiquantitative reverse transcription-polimerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Moreover, its level was… Show more

“…Furthermore, leptin receptor mRNA increased as the porcine GC luteinized during 96 h in culture. Moreover, OB-Rb gene expression increased during follicular development and in CL of mature porcine ovaries compared with prepubertal ovaries (Gregoraszczuk et al, 2007). These results suggest that the expression of leptin and of the leptin receptor correlates with the maximal progesterone content.…”

“…It is a well known fact that resistin, like other adipokines such as leptin (Gregoraszczuk et al 2007, Vázquez et al 2015, adiponectin (Chabrolle et al 2007, Palin et al 2012, chemerin (Reverchon et al 2012) or visfatin (Reverchon et al 2013a) can affect reproduction function. The first indication that resistin was involved in the regulation of the female reproductive system may be the discovery that resistin was expressed in rat ovaries throughout the oestrous cycle and was elevated in animals with induced ovarian cysts (Jones et al 2009).…”

“…IGF-I appears to have a stimulatory effect on leptin receptor expression in prepubertal pig follicular cells [30]. On the other hand, leptin does not significantly affect IGF-I secretion either in a dose or a time-dependent manner in rat endometrial stromal cells [31].…”
