Activation cross sections of proton induced nuclear reactions on neodymium up to 65 MeV

Abstract: Activation cross sections for proton induced reactions on Sm are presented for the first time for nat Sm(p,xn) 154,152m2,152m1,152g,150m,150g,149,148,147,146,145 Eu, nat Sm(p,x) 153,145 Sm, nat Sm(p,x) 151,150,149,148g,148m,146,144,143 Pm and nat Sm(p,x) 141 Nd up to 65 MeV. The cross sections were measured via activation method by using a stacked-foil irradiation technique and high resolution gamma ray spectroscopy. The results were compared with results of the nuclear reaction codes ALICE, EMPIRE and TALYS… Show more

“…Other irradiation methods have been investigated on natural Nd targets and cross-sections have been measured for the 148 Nd(p,γ) 149 Pm, 150 Nd(p,2n) 149 Nd → 149 Pm, 148 Nd(d,n) 149 Pm, and 150 Nd(d,3n) 149 Pm nuclear reactions (Yang et al 2015 ; Tárkányi et al 2017 ; Lebeda et al 2014 , 2012 ; Tárkányi et al 2014 ). Measured cross-sections of these reactions are considerably lower than the well-established 148 Nd(n,γ) 149 Nd → 149 Pm nuclear reaction, and so have not seen routine use for 149 Pm production.…”

“…Specifically for the separation of 149 Pm from Nd, optimum separation was achieved when 0.18 M HNO 3 was used for elution of Nd and 149 Pm was stripped from the column with 1.5 M HNO 3 , resulting in a separation efficiency of 98.4%. The 149 Pm was then (Yang et al 2015;Tárkányi et al 2017;Lebeda et al 2014Lebeda et al , 2012Tárkányi et al 2014).
