Activation effect of soil available nitrogen, manganese and cobalt after addition of different fumigants

Abstract: Soil fumigation is a well-established method for controlling soil-borne diseases. Better quantification of soil available nitrogen and trace elements may provide recommendations on the safe and effective application of soil fumigants. The effects of four fumigants on the available soil nitrogen and trace elements (including Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and Cd) were investigated in the laboratory incubation with agricultural soil. The results showed that soil fumigation increased soil mineral nitrogen and available Mn, C… Show more

“…In the mutants grown in the non-fumigated soils, lower leaf chlorophyll content is not surprising because of the lack of nitrogen fixation as a result of the absence of nodule formation (Figures 1A,B). However, previous studies have found that fumigation increased the nitrogen content of soils because of the degradation and release of nutrients from the dead microbial cells, which may explain the higher chlorophyll content in mutant plants associated with the fumigated soils (Yan et al, 2022). Furthermore, the end products of chloropicrin, which was the fumigant used in this study, upon degradation are carbon dioxide, chlorine, and nitrogen.…”

“…However, Wang et al (2023) illustrate that younger Chinese consumers are more likely to spend a small amount of money to avoid the inconvenience of carrying eco-friendly shopping bags compared to the older generation. Compared to the older generation, who are used to being frugal and continue to avoid unnecessar y expenses even when their financial situation improves, the cost of plastic bags is insignificant for younger consumers.…”
