Activation of Methane to C2Hydrocarbons over Unpromoted Calcium Oxide Catalysts

Abstract: The oxidative coupling of methane has received a great deal of attention for the last twenty five years because the reaction has been understood as a promising route for the C 2 -hydrocarbon production from natural gas.1,2 To identify suitable catalysts giving high C 2 -yield, a lot of catalysts have been examined for the oxidative coupling of methane. It has been reported that high surface basicity of a catalyst is necessary to enhance the C 2 selectivity in the reaction. 3Alkali metal oxides and alkaline ear… Show more

“…The catalytic activity of CaO was enhanced by unsaturated surface sites, and photoluminescence spectra are formed by unsaturated sites on the CaO surface . Surface unsaturated sites with the coordination number <5 was exhibited by the lower energy region . In low coordination states, surface absorption bands connected with electronic transitions in surface oxygen ions display low PL energy excitation.…”

“… 54 Surface unsaturated sites with the coordination number <5 was exhibited by the lower energy region. 55 In low coordination states, surface absorption bands connected with electronic transitions in surface oxygen ions display low PL energy excitation. Surface absorption bands are linked with the electronic transitions in surface oxygen ions in the low coordination state, which causes lower excitation energy of PL.…”
