Active-Current Control of Large-Scale Wind Turbines for Power System Transient Stability Improvement Based on Perturbation Estimation Approach

Abstract: This paper proposes an active-current control strategy for large-scale wind turbines (WTs) to improve the transient stability of power systems based on a perturbation estimation (PE) approach. The main idea of this control strategy is to mitigate the generator imbalance of mechanical and electrical powers by controlling the active-current of WTs. The effective mutual couplings of synchronous generators and WTs are identified using a Kron-reduction technique first. Then, the control object of each WT is assigne… Show more

“…Adjusting the angle of the pitch causes the torque and rotor speed remains at nominal value as wind speed increases. Power generation varies at different wind speeds (Arnaltes et al 2018;Shen et al 2018;Xibo and Yongdong 2014;Yin et al 2017). Wind power is divided into four regions in order to produce power from wind energy.…”

“…On the one hand, GVSCs can rapidly adjust the power distribution by changing the reference values of the cascade control systems [3][4][5]. On the other hand, the response of GVSCs caused by grid faults affects the dynamic behavior of power systems [6,7]. The unbalanced power caused by small disturbances in a power system can cause a relative swing among synchronous machines.…”

“…Obviously, stability is a basic necessity to ensure the performance of the system. If the system is unstable, it is of no value to research its performance [7][8][9]. Thus, the stability assessment of the multi-port single-phase solid-state transformer (MS3T) is a significant topic.…”
