Active Metabolites from Dunalia spinosa Resinous Exudates

Abstract: Dunalia spinosa, a plant used in folk medicine for toothaches, breathing problems and cleansing wounds, was found active as antimicrobial and antioxidant. A new (E)-aurone rutinoside (dunaurone) has been isolated from the aerial parts of the plant, and its structure was determined by spectroscopic means. Lupeol, ß-sitosterol, scopoletin, quercetin and withaferin A were also found. All the extracts exhibited strong antimicrobial activity while dunaurone showed only weak antimicrobial inhibition against Klebsiel… Show more

“…Furthermore, Lupeol and Sitosterol were isolated from the petroleum ether extract of Sapium baccatum leaves, and both of them showed high activity in brine shrimp lethality bioassay (Yunus et al 2009). Strong antimicrobial activity was detected both in Lupeol and β-Sitosterol isolated from Dunalia spinosa (Erazo et al 2008). Lupeol from Curtisia dentata was also reported as an antibacterial and antifungal triterpenoid (Shai et al 2008).…”

“…1B), was first isolated from W. somnifera and its structure was elucidated [4]. In addition to W. somnifera, WFA has been isolated from Withania artistata [5], Ajuga bracteosa [6], Vassobia breviflora [7], and Dunalia spinosa [8]. WFA has shown to have potent cytotoxic effects on various cancer cell types.…”
