Pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) are common expended in modern society. One of the main input sources of thesepollutants into the environment is the wastewater, those in Latin America and currently in Colombia is not strictly treated. The objective of the present review was to make a synthesis about straightaway information in Colombia about PPCPs through bibliographic search in scientific sources as Scopus and web of science. For this purpose, is being argued about PPCPs persistence and risk in aquatic ecosystems. Finally, it was found that diclofenac, carbamazepine, naproxen and ibuprofen are the pharmaceuticals (PPCPs) most frequently found in water. In addition .there are cities which do not have systems to treat wastewater hence the situation is even worse being that any pollutant is treated before reaching surface waters such as rivers.
