“…Fungi can colonise almost everything, given favourable conditions of growth, and their spores can remain viable for hundreds of years. Evaluation of the strains isolated here from various substrates confirmed the considerable enzyme potential of Aspergillus, Penicillium and Cladosporium, as also reported by Villalba et al, 2004. Most of the strains tested displayed capacity for cellulase production, which was most remarkably in Aspergillus species particularly in those isolated from paper and textiles, including A.…”

“…Optimal growth and salt stress tolerance of EN21 were tested in Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB) medium supplemented with 0-25% (w/v) NaCl. Other phenotypic characteristic were evaluated-acid and alkaline phosphatase [31,32]; hydrolysis of starch and casein [33], cellulose [34], chitin [35], DNA [36], Tween ® 20, Tween ® 80 and gelatin [33] and siderophore production [37]. EN21 toxicity was assessed using the Microtox ® rapid test system (Environmental Bio-Detection Products Inc., Mississauga, ON, Canada) [38].…”
