Activity Measurements of Liquid Ga–Te and Ga–Sb Alloys by EMF Method with Solid Electrolyte

Abstract: of galvanic cells with the solid electrolyte (ZrO2+CaO) was measured to determine the activities of gallium at high temperatures in the whole composition range for liquid Ga-Te and Ga-Sb alloys, and some thermodynamic functions were derived from the results. The cells used were as follows:The activities of gallium in liquid Ga-Te alloys at 1123 K showed large negative deviations from Raoult's law on the Te-rich side, and increased remarkably in the middle concentration range from negative to positive deviation… Show more

“…The present study is performed in the course of our program of experimental thermodynamic studies of gallium-antimony and gallium-indium based ternary alloys at high temperatures by use of an EMF method to determine the activity of gallium in the liquid Ga-Sb-Tl alloys. Activity of gallium in the liquid Ga-Sb and Ga-Tl alloys show negative and large positive deviations from ideal solution behavior , respectively, as shown in our previous papers [1,2], but there seem no experimental activity data for Ga-Sb-Tl alloys hitherto.…”

“…Integral excess Gibbs energies of mixing were derived according to Darken's method from the two binary data of Ga-Sb and Ga-Tl systems combined with the ternary data along pseudobinary system of (Sb y Tl 1-y )-Ga (** in the Table ) and also from the combination of the ternary data and basal binary data of Sb-Tl system (* in the Table ). Dragan et al [4] reported the thermodynamic properties in this system at 1073K obtained by use of several thermodynamic models [5] based on the constituent three binary data; Ga-Sb [1], Ga-Tl [2] and Sb-Tl [6]. One of the results is shown in Fig.…”

“…Fig. 4 shows the concentration dependence of the gallium activity at 1073 K along the pseudobinary systems (In y Te 1− y )‐Ga ( y = 0.25, 0.50, 0.75) with those of the binary systems of Ga‐In [16] and Ga‐Te [14], which are shown in the figure with black symbols. The figure shows that the order of activity values at the same gallium concentration is very complicated.…”

“…To calculate Δ G XS by these equations, fitting parameters for binary alloys using the following Redlich–Kister polynomial were obtained from the experimental data [16, 14, 17] from 1000 to 1200 K at intervals of 50 K, where …”
